Apple Watch strap fit

Apple Watch straps are sized by case width, not by model year. Two checks and you'll know which strap to order.

1. Find your case size

Open the Watch app on your iPhone, then General → About. The model line includes the case size in millimetres (for example 41 mm or 45 mm). You can also check the engraving on the back of the watch.

2. Match the connector

Apple groups strap connectors by case size. Smaller cases (38 / 40 / 41 mm) share one connector width, and larger cases (42 / 44 / 45 / 49 mm) share another. Choose the strap option that matches your group — the product page states which sizes it fits.

3. Fitting the strap

  • Hold the release button on the back of the watch and slide the existing strap sideways out of the slot.
  • Slide the new strap in until it clicks. It should not move under light pressure.
  • Wear it snug enough that the sensor stays in contact with your wrist, but not tight.

Living with leather

Leather and prolonged moisture do not mix. Remove a leather strap for swimming and heavy exercise, and let it dry naturally if it does get wet — see the leather care guide.
