How it's made

A belt is a simple object made of a few decisions. These are ours.

1. Hide selection

Straps are cut from Italian leather. Placement matters: the firmest sections of a hide make the best belt straps, because a strap has to resist stretching along its length for years.

2. Cutting

Each strap is cut to width and length, then skived where thickness would otherwise bunch. Wallets and cases are cut as flat panels before assembly.

3. The ratchet track

The underside of an automatic strap carries a toothed track. The buckle mechanism engages it as you pull and releases on the lever, which is what allows adjustment in millimetre steps instead of at fixed holes.

4. Edge finishing

Edges are burnished and sealed so they resist fraying, then stitched where construction requires it. This is the slowest stage and the one that most affects how a piece looks after a year.

5. Buckle assembly

The buckle clamps to the strap rather than being riveted permanently, so you can trim the strap to your waist after delivery and refit the same buckle.

6. Inspection and dispatch

Finished pieces are checked and dispatched from the EU. Assembly and quality control take place at our production partners in the European Union, and every order leaves our EU warehouse in Katowice, Poland.
